Welsh Weekend

Friday 9th - Monday 12th June 2023

The Guild spent 3-nights at the fabulous 'Trevor Hall' in Llangollen, North Wales, for their biennial big historical costume weekend.

Trevor Hall is a stunning 18th century house. The sprawling grounds offer lots of space for activities and photo shoots.

Accommodation was within the house itself, or in the nearby converted stable block, and the ground floor of the manor offered lots of period rooms to act as the perfect backdrop for photographs.

The weekend kicked off on Friday night with a pyjama party. Attendees wore their best historical loungewear and nightwear to socialise, finish off some last-minute sewing, or play boardgames.

On Saturday morning we headed into Llangollen to catch the canal boat from the Wharf to the Pontcysyllte Aquaduct, and back again. On board we enjoyed afternoon tea.

All aboard! Ready to set sail on the Thomas Telford canal boat.

And later that night, we donned our sleuthing caps, as we took part in a Victorian-Edwardian themed Murder Mystery Party. Using all the clues and information provided, attendees had to try and solve the murder of 'Baroness Helga von Borken'. One team was triumphant and the murderer was apprehended!

The case was led by 'Detective Shirley Holmes' (Kyla)

Sunday was a much more relaxed affair. In the morning, Sarah of Mrs Bettany's Micro Apothecary hosted a Victorian Toiletries Workshop in the kitchens. We got to make a variety of recipes; hand lotion, lip balm, perfume. And got to leave with more to make ourselves some deodorant too.

In the evening, we held a farewell soiree in the gardens. A thunderstorm broke out halfway through, but this only added some excitement to proceedings. We moved the dancing inside and continued our ceilidh in the dining room.

Dancing to some classic disco tunes outside before the weather took a turn.

Once the thunderstorm started, we moved inside for a Scottish ceilidh.

On Monday morning, we bid a sad goodbye to our historical home for the weekend. Everyone had really enjoyed themselves, and we are very much looking forward to the next one!

Farewell to Trevor Hall...for now!
